INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
Beyond managing symptoms
Individual therapy is a space to slow down and look more closely at what's getting in the way. The work is collaborative and shaped by what each person brings, their concerns, their goals, and what feels most pressing right now.
At North Bearing, therapy is rooted in the belief that emotions, even the most painful or confusing ones, are worth understanding rather than managing or avoiding. Working with them rather than around them is often where real and lasting change begins. I draw primarily from Emotion Focused Therapy, alongside other evidence-based approaches, always tailored to the individual, because what helps one person may not be what helps another.
Progress looks different for everyone. Some people notice shifts quickly, for others the work unfolds more gradually. What stays consistent is the collaborative nature of our sessions and a shared commitment to understanding what's driving the patterns that bring you here, and finding a clearer, steadier way forward.
Concerns I commonly work with include anxiety, low mood, depression, grief and loss, life transitions, relationship difficulties, self-criticism, burnout, trauma, and emotion regulation challenges.
Individual therapy at North Bearing is available for adults, adolescents, and children. For younger clients, whether virtual therapy is a good fit is something we can explore together.
Sessions are billed at $245.00 per hour
PARENT CONSULTATION
Supporting your child through you
Many parents reach out seeking support for their child. Parent consultation is rooted in the belief that you are your child's greatest resource, and that supporting you is often the most direct path to supporting them.
Children's behaviour is communication. When we can understand what a child is actually feeling and needing beneath their behaviour, and respond in ways that support regulation, children become better able to manage their emotions and navigate the moments that feel hardest.
At North Bearing, parent consultation typically begins with understanding what's happening, what's already working, and what isn't. From there, we explore new ways of responding, centred in validation, containment, and co-regulation. Parents often find that their own experiences of being parented surface along the way, and that exploring those patterns becomes fundamental to understanding themselves as a parent. The goal is to feel steadier, more connected, and more confident in how you show up for your child, and ultimately to become the steady point they orient from.
Parent consultation sessions are with you, not your child, and are shaped by your relationship with them, and what feels most pressing. Parents come to this work navigating a wide range of concerns, including emotional outbursts, anxiety, defiance, disconnection, behavioural challenges at home or school.
Sessions are billed at $245.00 per hour
PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT
Understanding yourself more fully
Some people arrive with a specific question. Others simply sense that something about how they experience the world has always felt a little different. Assessments at North Bearing are built around understanding the full picture, including how your history, experiences, and context have shaped the way you think, feel, and move through the world. A diagnosis may emerge from that process when the findings support one. What you will always leave with is a clearer, more complete understanding of yourself and recommendations tailored to you.
Assessments at North Bearing are offered virtually and consist of clinical interviewing, standardized questionnaires, and where relevant, collateral interviews with people who know you well. Questionnaires are completed by you and with your permission, by collateral sources as well. Following the assessment, a written report summarizing the findings and recommendations is provided, along with a dedicated feedback session to walk through the results together.
Common areas explored include ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, trauma, and other concerns related to mood, attention, identity, and how you experience the world.
Please note that psycho-educational assessments, including cognitive and academic testing, are not offered at North Bearing.
